Bacterial Smear

This is the first of a series for `sya's ''Petri Dish Contest'' using fractals to reflect the designs found in nature, specifically a series of petri dishes showing various types or shapes of bacterial/fungal growths that were illustrated on a page that was linked. I used the same color background for all of the renderings, copying the color parameters from the first rendering and using it for each subsequent background. All were rendered 512x512 pixels using Apophysis 2.03b & c. I selected the 'circular area of the render to serve as a 'petri dish' and its contents and layered over a 640x640 pixel background piece, and then with the magic wand, selected the outer area and border, and using the modify border, selected a 5 pixel border of each and used the 'style' palette to form the borders of the frame and ''petri dish''.

This first piece reminds me of some of the e. coli smears that we first did in bacteriology lab, learning how to transfer a sample with a wire loop from a tube culture to the petri dish and its agar medium and then incubating for a day or so. I remember a few 'happy faces'' that showed up on a few of them...LOL There was a cloudiness that accompanied the main growth of the culture which also shows up on this in its full size view.
