This is an old B/W picture of my great-grandparent's log cabin in northern Minnesota. It originally was a trapper's cabin & my great-grandmother lived in it until the early 1960's. My next younger sister owns it now. It was built sometime early in the first quarter of the century, making it at least 80 yrs old or more. I believe this pix was taken in the 1950's.

Nice light and contrasts in this beautiful photo, I love the tones, the nostalgic feel, well done photograph, and revision.

I absolutely love it :)

It was a neat little cabin in the woods..:D My next younger sister bought it from my uncle who had inherited it. But, when sis wanted to put a new foundation under it, she found they couldn't lift it because of rot that had gotten some of the lower logs. So, it was dismantled and she and her husband build another cabin over the old foundations using half logs...:D I haven't seen it yet, as they're still working on it..:D

So... It doesn't exist any longer? :(

The only part still standing is the old outhouse.. There was too much damage to the logs when it came to restoration. My sister and brother-in-law dismantled it a year ago and some logs were saved for future projects but a lot of the insect and fungus damaged logs ended up as heating fuel...:D It was a nice old cabin, but drafty at times. So, it was mainly used in the summer months. It was originally an old trapper's cabin and built about 80 or more years ago. I remember going up there one weekend in the late fall to find that the roof had leaked and there was some mushrooms growing out of a couple of the roof timbers..LOL It was a pretty cold and damp weekend for sleeping...the little wood stove had a tough time warming the place. :D I guess the lack of use for a number of years after our grandparents' passing kind of took a toll on it. A week or two of use out of the year wasn't much for airing it out and drying the dampness. Now that my sister lives closer to the area, she gets there most weekends, and now has grandchildren that will enjoy the area. But, it's getting to be too many people on the lake there for my liking now that commercial developers are trying to move into the area. There went the peace and quiet of the north woods...:D

At least you could take a nice shot of it ;)

I love the stories behind the pictures. Thanks for this one :)

I have a couple video tapes of it and a few photos of the inside that I took about 15 years ago. I have to do a bit of looking to find them one of these days...:D I should put the tapes on DVDs, too. :D
